Program Description

The environment, sustainability and society major prepares students to become engaged, broadly-trained citizens and professionals who can apply critical, creative, flexible thinking to help solve local, national, and global problems. These skills can be applied to a number of exciting and interesting careers.Hartwick’s campus is located at the edge of the Catskill Mountains, a perfect setting for engaging with the environment, sustainability, and society major. The study of environment, sustainability and society is a hands-on experience and students have the option to be immersed in Hartwick’s Pine Lake Environmental Campus, a natural classroom of woodlands, wetlands, and a lake with student residences that include a lodge, cabins, and student- built straw bale and cob houses, located just eight miles from the main campus.
