Established as the Bath School of Art in the year 1852 as a result of the Great Exhibition (1851), Bath Spa University is a public institution of higher education and research. In 1975, two institutions of higher education, Bath Teacher Training College and Bath College of Domestic Science merged to form the Bath College of Higher Education. In 1983, Bath Academy of Art joined the merged body. In the year 1992, the institution was granted the power to award degrees followed by a name change - Bath Spa University College in 1995. The institution transformed into a university in 2005 and adopted its current name, Bath Spa University in the same year (August 2005). The main campus of Bath Spa University is located at Newton Park, which is the largest and oldest site of the institution. The beautiful campus features state-of-the-art academic buildings that house smart classrooms, laboratories and work stations equipped with modern technology and high-tech equipment. The University Library remains open 24 hours and holds a wide collection of resources in printed and digital forms to be accessed by both the faculty members and the students. The campus features many recreational areas for students to just relax and indulge in various extra-curricular activities. Accommodation is provided to about 2,264 students in its on-campus housing facility. Other than this, psychological counselling, financial advice and health care services are extended to the students on the campus. The university also has a satellite campus in Corsham Court and several campuses across Bath city. The university has eight schools that offer a range of full-time and part-time educational programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The students can pursue their degrees in various disciplines of business, art, humanities, design, music, creative industries, performing arts, sciences and education. Apart from this, the institution offers various short courses and distance learning programmes. The university is a vast community of different nationalities and cultures, with about 18,676 students from 130 countries of the world. The student population consists of 53% of males and 47% females. The international students contribute to 30% of the total student body. The institution has skilled, experienced and responsible staff on the roll, which includes academic affiliates, administrative officers and helping staff.
