Check My EligibilityThe English Language and Literature and Philosophy combined program is offered jointly by the English and Philosophy departments, so students can gain training in both areas. In studying English literature, you will encounter the immense range of human experience as expressed across many historic periods and cultures, from Anglo-Saxon oral tradition through to contemporary writing in English from around the world. Students will be able to appreciate the collective human condition and major themes of human experience. Combined with Philosophy, students can learn to appreciate the thoughts and ideas of people and places, and express and evaluate these ideas with respect to historical and modern contexts. Philosophy enables us to reflect on questions about who we are and how we should live. This combines well with English literature, where students will be able to explore the diversity of literary and social voices within traditions of literature.
