Program Description

The skills you need to thrive as a counselor aren't just learned in a classroom—they're built through experience. As a student in our counseling program, you'll practice working with real people, with real needs, all while you self-reflect and learn more about the profession. The Central Michigan University Counseling Program has been granted accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The program exceeds the requirements for all of its counseling programs (Addiction Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and School Counseling) leading to licensure/ endorsement and/ or counselor licensure in professional counseling. Clinical Mental Health Counseling: As a mental health counselor, your clients may be coping with addiction, crisis and trauma, and other challenges. This concentration prepares you to work at community-based social service agencies, institutions of higher education, public and private schools, and private practice.
