Program Description
The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies program at the University of Portsmouth is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in early years education. This three-year full-time undergraduate course provides students with a detailed understanding of the development, learning, and care of young children from birth to 8 years and encourages them to understand the specific needs of this age group in a multidisciplinary way. Notable modules included in the course are child development, contemporary issues in early childhood, professional development in early years, safeguarding children and dedicated learning through play. Students will participate in work-based learning through placements in different settings to gain practical experience. This course has a thoughtful blend of academic and professional study, enabling students to build a foundation of knowledge while developing relevant career skills. Graduates will often go on to work in a variety of sectors within early childhood, such as education, social care, and health, among others.
