Program Description

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Games Production at the University of Portsmouth is a course dedicated to the development, production, and management aspects of digital gaming. It equips students with the skills required to navigate this dynamic industry, including project management, production methods, business and marketing, game design principles, quality assurance, and industry-standard software. Students engage in practical projects, often in groups, to emulate realistic games studio conditions and to build a portfolio of work to show future employers. The course aims to bring out the entrepreneurial spirit of students and encourages the creation of their own games or start-up companies. Additionally, students have the opportunity to engage with industry professionals through guest lectures and potentially gain practical field experience with a year-long paid work placement. A major focus is creating games for various platforms, including PCs, consoles, mobile, and online. Course content is constantly reviewed and updated to keep up with industry trends and developments. By the end of the program, graduates should be well-prepared to take on roles in production, design, business, or marketing within the gaming industry.
