Program Description
The BSc (Hons) Criminology and Criminal Justice program at the University of Portsmouth is a full-time 3-years course that provides a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice and punishment from the perspectives of sociology and law. Students get the opportunity to study topics such as forensics, psychological profiling, criminal investigation, terrorism, and the personality of criminals. The course also focuses on how justice agencies operate within a socio-legal context, and the different ways in which these agencies respond to crime. Throughout the program, students learn about the nature of crime, how society responds to it, and how offending behaviour can be managed. They'll dig into the British justice system, global security issues, and investigate the crimes society confronts daily. Through the close links between theory and practice, students are equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge for a career in a variety of fields such as social work, probation services, police force, and prisons. The University offers amazing support and has a strong commitment to making the student experience as enriching and empowering as possible, with opportunities for placements and study abroad initiatives. Upon graduation, students are prepared for a career in a wide range of criminal justice professions.
