Program Description

As a creative writing major, you’ll be trained to analyze and appreciate the component parts of a literary text, so that over time you’ll deepen your understanding not just of how to write, but of how to read as a writer. The ability to analyze, create, and write is broadly applicable to any number of fields. You will make a difference – whether in verse, prose, or in person.At Hartwick, creative writing is defined by course requirements that “teach students how to read closely as writers and to engage … in the practice of literary writing.” It includes course offerings devoted to “writers of many eras, continents, ethnicities, and sensibilities.” Here, we draw upon the expertise of a wide range of faculty to afford you first-hand access to experts who help bring your writing alive.
