Program Description

The BA (Hons) Film Production program at the University of Portsmouth is a full-time undergraduate course that typically last three years. This program provides students with an in-depth understanding of the film industry, allowing them to explore various aspects of film production, from script to screen. Students are able to develop their unique voice as a filmmaker while gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment. The course structure consists of both practical and theoretical studies. The practical component allows students to fulfill various roles in film production, such as scriptwriting, cinematography, directing, editing, and production management. The theoretical component covers film history, theory, and cultural impact of cinema. Throughout the course, students will receive guidance from industry professionals and gain valuable industry contacts. They will also have the opportunity to showcase their work at the annual Graduate Show and possibly at film festivals around the world. Additionally, the course encourages students to engage in work placements and internships to gain real-world industry experience.
