Program Description

The BA (Hons) Film Industries program at the University of Portsmouth is a three-year full-time undergraduate degree. It is designed mainly to provide students with a thorough understanding of the film industry, from scriptwriting to production. Students learn about film history, and contemporary cinematic and television cultures, and gain practical filmmaking skills. They explore different genres and styles, and studying film production gives them a more profound perspective on the creative process. The course draws on a range of strategies including lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials. Students are continuously evaluated through coursework, presentations, and essays. Students in this course benefit from the University’s film and TV studios equipped with modern technology. Extra-curricular activities include visits to film festivals, guest lectures, and internships to provide real-world experience and networking opportunities. In the final year, students undertake a major project in a chosen specialized area. This course aims to equip students with the skillset needed in the broad media field, including in production companies, broadcasting corporations, or further studies. Please note that the actual module information and course structure might vary, so it's always good to check the official University of Portsmouth website, or contact the university directly, for the most recent and precise information.
