Program Description
Hartwick’s program incorporates criminal justice courses and courses in sociology, and may include courses in philosophy and political science. The program addresses the applied, theoretical, and social justice aspects of the criminal justice system. Graduates will be well prepared for a variety of options, ranging from law and graduate school to careers in correctional and police work or social justice fields.Hartwick criminal justice students learn to apply criminological and social science theories to the study of the criminal justice system, and to theories about why crime happens and how to prevent it. They become familiar with the ethical problems of the system, as well as how race, class, and gender play a role. Study Criminal Justice at Hartwick College and you’ll focus on the interdisciplinary complexities of this timely and important field. By analyzing theories and gaining real-world experience, you’ll develop a deep understanding of how justice is assessed, interpreted, and enforced in the 21st century.
