Program Description
This course allows you to take your interest in English and Education to degree level. You will study educational systems from the early years right through to university and lifelong learning. You’ll look at issues that affect learners, the impact of ethnicity, deprivation, gender, disability and learning difficulties, sexuality, mental health. You'll consider those who have experienced bullying or abuse. You’ll also explore the role of teachers, of families and other professionals, you’ll study learning theories and the curriculum. You’ll choose from options in language, literature or creative writing - based on your interest in the primary or secondary curriculum. From the classics of literature to the fairy tale, or from political speeches to cinema to advertising. You'll explore a range of literary and linguistic styles and approaches. You will also cover topics in language development, approaches to literacy, as well as debates in the curriculum for English.
