Program Description

Our Mechanical Engineering major is designed to prepare you with knowledge, problem-solving ability, and hands-on skills to enter careers in the design, installation, manufacturing, testing, evaluation, technical sales, or maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers make significant contributions in supporting engineering design, testing, production, research, and development operations in a wide variety of industrial, aerospace, and government organizations. Get both theoretical and practical experience in our ABET accredited mechanical engineering program. You’ll learn how to apply your advanced math knowledge. You’ll conduct experiments. You’ll gain the skills needed to take any project from idea to reality. You can join our mechanical engineering majors in designing and building innovative products such as a "hotel" to preserve local bees, a motorized cooler that follows its owner, or an automatic fishing pole. You can help faculty members develop new low-cost, renewable fuels or improve solar energy efficiency. In your classes, you can dive deeper into areas such as machine design, advanced materials, and thermodynamics. Outside the classroom, you'll have many opportunities to collaborate with faculty and fellow students on projects you're passionate about.
