Program Description

This course is an opportunity for you to start your engineering or computing degree with access to all of DMU’s cutting-edge facilities. On successful completion you will continue on to the second year of your undergraduate degree course with DMU’s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. DMUIC’s Engineering and Computing IY1 gives you the perfect opportunity to start your engineering or computing degree with access to all of DMU’s cutting-edge facilities. Spend your first year gaining a broad understanding of all the key principles of engineering and computing as well as learning the study skills needed to make a smooth transition into your second year. Study the way in which electronics and computing are used to control the behaviour of real-world systems such as cars, buildings and aeroplanes and use your creativity and problem-solving skills to solve challenges set by tutors. Discover how design plays a crucial role in successful engineering projects and how to use Computer-Aided Design programs. On successful completion of the Engineering or Computing First Year, students can then continue onto the second year of one of the DMU undergraduate courses listed below, according to the route they have chosen.
