Program Description

With big studio facilities and small classes, Hartwick offers art majors a comprehensive “art school” approach within a liberal arts college. The combination of direct experiences in art, a progressive review process, and the placement of art in the context of a wide array of other disciplines makes a Hartwick B.A. in art a distinctive liberal arts experience.Hartwick hosts a variety of events including art exhibitions, lectures and demonstrations by visiting artists and art historians, as well as film screenings. Students travel with faculty on field trips to regional museums and conferences around the country and off-campus J Term courses around the world.At Hartwick art students learn to communicate effectively through the production and analysis of images and objects. You will learn to engage in constructive debate through written and verbal critiques, and gain political fluency by engaging with contemporary societal and global issues through art. The intersection of fields such as business, technology, political science and psychology with a major in art leads you to discover unexpected, diverse and satisfying careers.
