Program Description

We’re the premier Sound and Music Production Master’s in the South-West. Students work on music production, advanced recording and mixing techniques in our studio complex, immersive and spatial audio technologies in our 22.2 speaker Soundlab, composition and sound design for film and media in our Dolby Atmos dubbing theatre, and a thorough dive into game audio via UE5 and associated middleware in our mac labs. Work experience and making industry connections are key to student experience on this course, with huge opportunity to integrate into professional roles in the UK audio industry. The Sound and Music Production MSc is a Masters course that enables students to develop high-level skills and knowledge across a range of audio production practices. Music and sound play an essential role in the creative industries, and our course emphasises collaboration and employability in UK and international sectors. The course concludes with a final production project that enables students to specialise in their chosen area of practice, and to develop routes into industry and employment. We’re part of UK Music’s ‘Music Academic Partnership’, and our students meets industry guests throughout the year, who deliver insights and masterclass workshops on the latest technologies and techniques. You’ll also be studying with key Music and Sound staff such as James Shannon, winner of the AMS Neve recording award who is currently working out of Splice Studios, previously with Pinewood, Dolby and Abbey Road (IMDB), BAFTA winner Tim Land (aka Landslide), creative Producer Ben Hamid, and Course Leader Philip Reeder. For quality of teaching, our Sound and Music Production BA (Hons) course scored 93% in the National Student Survey 2023. Our industry networks and partnerships enable students to take up placements at music festivals, production houses and recording studios, giving them the experience they need to develop their skills portfolios and CVs, and make the step into industry practice as a working professional.
