Program Description
Nanoscience is the study of structures and materials on the scale of nanometers. Scientists around the world are now beginning to fashion the tools needed to manipulate and engineer nanoscale structures, with these technologies set to have a dramatic effect on future advances in medicine, biology, and energy, as well as in materials science, semiconductor devices, and computer technology. This MSc in Nanoscience has been developed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge of key chemical and physical concepts in nanoscience, crossing conventional discipline boundaries from chemistry to specialised areas of physics and nanomedicine. The programme is designed to develop students' ability to plan and carry out independent research studies and to evaluate the significance of outcomes, with a focus on development of problem-solving skills, and an ability to adapt and apply methodology to the solution of unfamiliar problems at the forefront of the nanoscience and nanotechnology. A combination of fundamental topics, research frontiers, and industry-related changes aims to prepare students effectively for professional employment or research degrees in relevant disciplines.
