Program Description
BSc (Hons) Marine Environmental Science at the University of Portsmouth is an interdisciplinary study program that covers many of the sciences necessary to understand marine life in all of its aspects. It combines theoretical studies with practical sessions, ranging from lab work to field trips, to give a depth of understanding into marine science. The course explores how to measure and explain aspects of the world oceans, such as water quality, aquatic life, and the processes that affect coastal regions. Students also have an opportunity to conduct their own research project in a marine environment-related topic of their choosing. The curriculum is designed to equip the students with the tools to tackle major environmental issues, like climate change, biodiversity loss, and habitat destruction. The program places importance on critical thinking and problem-solving, aiming to prepare students for a wide range of careers in marine biology, conservation, and research. All of this contributes to a holistic, robust education in marine environmental science.
