Program Description

Bachelor of Arts in Music (Honours) Prepares students for careers in the rapidly evolving music industry,Exposure to a diversity of music from traditional Western art music to jazz, pop, electro-acoustic and world music; exposure to regional cultural institutions,Develops creative and critical-thinking skills,Direct admission without an entrance audition,First year includes music theory and history, sight singing and ear training. With an audition students may take a performance course or join an ensemble.This is a flexible program that will allow you to pursue the rigorous, academic study of a wide variety of musical genres with the option of including a hands-on studio experience with classical or contemporary music. The BA in Music is designed for those captivated by music and its role in social and cultural life. With its focus on academic study and the development of creative and critical-thinking skills, this four-year program provides excellent preparation for careers and graduate studies in music theory or music history and a range of careers in areas outside of music. The BA in Music also includes classes for students who wish to pursue advanced, contemporary music making, including popular and electronic music and music technology. You can develop composition and performance skills that reflect the diversity and richness of these practices, challenge yourself to be a creative and reflective musician, and prepare yourself for a career in the rapidly evolving music industry.
