Program Description

All students must complete 36 credit hours of study, including 24 credit hours of required courses and 12 credit hours of optional courses, all of which would be at the 7000-level (normally), and a mandatory co-op placement (POLS 6500). Students with demonstrated professional-work experience with a public sector organization in the area of health or public administration, may request a waiver of the requirement for a co-op placement. There is no thesis option or comprehensive examination. Students are required, however, to complete a major paper as part of the Capstone Seminar. The Joint Master's Program in Public Administration is supervised by the Joint Discipline Committee (JDC) consisting of members of the faculty of the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg.

Study and Work in Canada

Full-time undergraduate and post-graduate international students can work anywhere on or off campus without a work permit. The rules around the number of hours a student will be allowed to work may vary based on the country the student chooses to study in. International students are typically able to work up to 20 hours a week.
