Program Description
The MA Specialised Translation program at the University of Westminster is an advanced level program designed to provide in-depth understanding and professional skills in the field of translation. The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and expertise to embark on a career as a professional translator, or in related fields. The program offers a choice of nine languages to be studied along with English, covering numerous fields like media, business, science, subtitled languages, or legal translation. Included are theoretic frameworks, the use of software tools, hands-on translation practice and research methods, which all serve to deepen the understanding of the linguistic and technical features of translation. The course provides students with internship opportunities during their studies to gain practical experience in a professional environment and has strong connections with international translation organisations. A major part of the program is the capstone project where students produce translations, develop a specialised glossary or create a website on translation. The MA Specialised Translation program is taught by experienced professionals and academic specialists, ensuring students are supported to develop a wide range of transferable skills which could be applied in many different career paths.
