Program Description

Get ready for a leadership role in the military or the civilian sector. This hands-on minor combines in-class learning with practical experiences to give you a well-rounded education. Whether you’re planning a career in the military or in another field, our unique military science minor will prepare you for leadership no matter where your career takes you. All courses include hands-on leadership labs that train you in activities such as rappelling, rock climbing, marksmanship, water survival, orienteering, map reading, first aid, weapons, drill, squad tactics, patrolling and team-building exercises. Classroom instruction combines lectures, group discussions, practical exercises and hands-on experiences. Required courses focus on the fundamentals of military science and military history, while interdisciplinary electives focus on constitutional law, international relations, geography, technology and more. Upper-level courses include opportunities to apply the leadership lessons you’ve learned by teaching classes and motivating your team through dynamic problem-solving adventures. Along the way, you’ll build both your confidence and your resume. The minor in military science is open to all students, and there is no military obligation.
