Program Description

Develop your talent and build a portfolio of short stories, novel excerpts, poems, creative nonfiction essays or a combination of these genres. A graduate degree in Creative Writing will prepare you to teach English at a community college, publish your work, or apply to MFA and PhD programs. For students already teaching English at the secondary level, a graduate degree in Creative Writing will enhance your study in the discipline. A master’s degree in Creative Writing is ideal for those who have a passion for creative writing and wish to develop their talent as well as those who wish to apply to MFA or PhD programs, publish their work, enter the job market, teach at the community college level, or meet the general needs of elementary and secondary teachers who wish to upgrade their capabilities. You'll work to complete an exit portfolio consisting of your strongest short stories, novel excerpts, poems, creative nonfiction essays, or a combination of these genres. You'll work closely with award-winning faculty, make connections with prominent authors, and build lifelong friendships with your peers.
